Darrin Wood

Darrin WoodMusic & Drama Teacher - QLD
Mentor 2016

Darrin Wood has been teaching music and drama in State High schools all over Queensland since 1994. During that time, he has learnt to make the most of engaging students in music and embracing technologies that students can access in the ‘real world’. He started as a trained classical clarinettist but over the course of his career, has become proficient in the use of musical performance and recording technologies and utilising them in the classroom as a way to engage students in the fundamentals of music.

As a state school teacher he has been able to create successful programs that engage students but do not break school budgets. He teaches music to all year levels as well as teaching the Certificate 2 in Music Industry.

As a music teacher he has found it important to regularly update his skills to maintain relevance in a constantly changing music industry. He is proficient in both music software and hardware, where they can be used in ‘real world’ environments making the music industry a relevant pathway to his students.

Darrin is currently on leave from Cavendish Road State High School and is currently the Senior Education Officer for Music and Drama for the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).
